![]() ![]() Other than that, I think a lighter wheelset would be nice, but I don't know about dumping that much money into a bike that costs less than a nice set of wheels would. The headset is junk, so that will be swapped out soon as well. Mech discs like BB7s ought to do the trick. The brakes are next on the chopping block. Oh, and since this is your first SS, you might want to go ahead and invest in some good lock on grips, as mine were spinning all over the place after the first couple rides, even after re-gluing them. Now that I've replaced mine with a burly spline drive setup, I'm going to upgrade to a wider, more forgiving (flexible) handlebar. :madman: Besides, they flex like spaghetti anyhow. mine just bought the farm with less than 100 miles on them. Go ride the crap out of that thing!Ĭlick to expand.I would suggest expeditiously depositing the cranks in the nearest recycling can. I replaced it with a Deore level Shimano QR and couldn't be happier. The front wheel would slip in the dropouts no matter how tightly I cranked it down. I also found that the front QR was garbage when I upgraded to disc brakes. I actually used the Redline headset on a beater townie, and it is still going. I can't tell the difference in performance, really. I ran mine for a year before putting the Reba on, and then I installed a Cane Creek C2. I wouldn't worry about the stock headset until it becomes an issue. I would suggest removing them and re-installing them torqued to spec with some blue loctite in there. I've also heard some reports on the chainring bolts backing out. I replaced mine with a regular sized stem and carbon 27" wide 3/4" carbon riser bar. I would get wrist pain on buff singletrack. Unless you live in Kansas and only ride in dry weather.Īlso, I dunno if they got some smarts smacked into them, but the stock riser bar that came on my '07 was not only too narrow, but was an OS bar that was waaaaay too stiff to use with a rigid fork.
